We support couples by helping them identify negative patterns in their communication and conflict styles, and work towards changing these patterns so that each partner feels supported and heard by the other.
We work from an Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT) lens rooted in attachment theories while using key philosophies and treatments from Gottman Couple Therapy and CBT.

At Vitality Counselling Services we understand that family dynamics can be complex and challenging. Our goal is to help families navigate these complexities, foster positive growth and change, and build stronger, healthier relationships. Together, we explore how thoughts, emotions, values, past experiences, and current stressors influence children and parents. Gaining this awareness can lead to meaningful and lasting change within the family.
We use a variety of therapeutic approaches tailored to your family’s unique needs, including: Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) and Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT).
In the Collaborative Divorce process, a Family Professional is a neutral third party who supports the emotional and relational aspects of separation.
As a Family Professional, Barb Shannon helps clients navigate the divorce process by screening for power imbalances, facilitating healthy communication, reducing conflict, and guiding couples toward effective co-parenting and problem-solving—all within a structured and respectful environment.
Barb holds a Certificate in Family Mediation and Collaborative Practice. She is an active member of Collaborative Divorce Waterloo Region and the Ontario Association of Collaborative Professionals.
Separation or divorce can be a challenging time for children. They need the adults in their lives to work together, but the court process often increases tension and conflict.
Parenting Plan Counselling helps families navigate this transition while keeping children’s well-being at the centre. Together, we’ll create a clear, practical parenting plan that outlines decision-making responsibilities, parenting time, living arrangements, and other important details. Once completed, the plan can be shared with lawyers and included in a separation agreement.
Barb Shannon's life passion is to equip people with the knowledge, skills, and tools that will help them to enjoy optimal mental health, avoid burnout, and increase their resilience. She is a dynamic, experienced, and passionate keynote speaker who engages the audience with my storytelling abilities, sense of humour and practical examples which are sure to make an impact.
